A NOTE ON WORDING:

-“LOT” is the larger of the spaces, containing one or more “PLOTS” within it

-*Non-Resident status includes former residents who have been absent from the village for a period of twelve (12) months or more. If you or your family member were Village residents that were “forced” to live elsewhere (assisted living, nursing home, etc) outside of the Village, please let us  know and the Board will make a final determination on pricing.

Weekend or after hour (after 3 pm) burial

$400.00 in addition to above charges. (This $400.00 will be split evenly among workers if more than one is needed for the work to be completed.) Note: grave opening will be covered, but not dressed until the next regular business day.

FOUNDATIONS -The cost of a foundation stone is $60.00/square foot (rounded to the nearest foot) PLUS $50.00 to cover the cost of installation.

-All foundations are to be placed in the Village cemetery by Village personnel only, ordered through the Clerk, and paid to the “Village of Cherry Valley”, prior to order or placement.

-On a typical placement, approximately two feet (deep) of crusher stone is placed under the foundation.

-The Village provides the foundation stones

-On average, approximately two inches per side (8 inches total) is calculated in addition to the size of the stone so as to have space for the reveal when the headstone is placed.

RULES & REGULATIONS

All lots in the Cherry Valley Cemetery are sold in accordance with the provisions of the Laws of the State of New York and shall not be used for any other purpose than as a burial place for deceased human beings.

No interment shall be allowed without permission first obtained from the DPW Superintendent of the Village of Cherry Valley or his representative.  At the time of applying for permission, the following information must be furnished:

1. Name of deceased

2. Age of deceased – including birth date, if known.

3. Place of birth of deceased, if known.

4. Date of death.

5. Time and date of interment.

Other Important Information to Note:

1. No lot owner may transfer his or her lot other than back to the Village.

2. The full purchase price must be paid before a deed will be given or burial allowed on the lot.

3. The Village DPW crew reserves the right to remove all flowers, wreaths, or other decorations from lots as soon as they become unsightly.

4. The Village DPW crew reserves the right to restrict the planting of shrubs and trees and to remove any shrub or tree deemed dangerous to the public, upon due notice to the lost owner.

5. All funerals, processions, and vehicles will be under the control of the Superintendent while in the cemetery.

6. No vault or mausoleum shall be built above the ground without the permission of the Board of Trustees and then only in such locations and size as they may approve.

7. No mausoleum will be approved for such construction by the Board of Trustees unless a sufficient endowment is set up to provide adequate income to maintain the structure.

8. All foundations will be constructed by or under the direction of the Cherry Valley DPW.

9. All work done in the cemetery shall be done by the cemetery employees or under the control or with the permission of the Superintendent or the Board of Trustees.

10. Monument sizes may be restricted by the Board of Trustees.

11. No monument will be allowed to be delivered in the cemetery until the foundation is installed and ready to receive the monument unless permission is given by the Superintendent.

12. Heavy trucking or other vehicular traffic shall be refused entrance to the cemetery when, in the opinion of the Superintendent, injuries to roads and driveways may result.

13. All persons shall be allowed access to the cemetery during daylight hours, observing the rules that are in effect and the propriety due the cemetery.

14. NO children under the age of 14 are allowed in the cemetery without adult supervision. 

15. Interments on Sundays will be governed by the Board/Superintendent.

16. No Holiday burials will be allowed.

17. Graves will not be opened between November 15th and April 15th when frost and weather conditions warrant such refusal until permission is given by the Superintendent and weather permits.  Disinterment will also apply to these rules.

18. All lot owners are required to notify the cemetery of any changes in address.  All notices required to be sent to the last recorded address and such notices shall be deemed adequate.

19. Cremated remains will only be permitted to be scattered in a predetermined area of the cemetery, upon approval of the Board of Trustees.

20. Concrete or steel vaults or concrete grave liners will be required for all interments.

21. The interment of cremated remains will be permitted only in appropriate rigid receptacles such as wood, metal, plastic, cardboard or concrete (or other by special permission of the board of trustees).

22. Only one human remain shall be permitted in one grave and one cremated remain shall be permitted in one cremation grave.  Two (2) cremation remains may be allowed with one regular full casket burial or three (3) cremation remains may be allowed in one grave plot.

23. Only two burials allowed per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

24. No Dogs allowed in the cemetery except service dogs.
